The Issues I Believe Keep the American People From True Prosperity:
People instead of Parties
Our
government (State and Federal) today is made up of primarily "Party Warriors", whose
allegiance is to their Party not to the people that elected them. This is where
a dedicated Independent Rep. shines. Regardless of my personal ideology, I have
and will always act in the best interest of the people that have placed their
trust in me. This is one of the principles that defines my life.
Apparent Corruption
Whether
corruption is as rampant in Washington DC as media would have us believe is
irrelevant. That it appears to be true is important, since it undermines the
trust people should have in their government.
Recent Federal Government actions do not help instill public trust. We can't really be sure what motivates the three branches to enact laws like Uncharged Indefinite and Secret Detention (2012 NDAA), Executive Assassination justification, and Banning the ability of the citizens to protest the actions of their Government (H.R. 347).
The Competition

Congressional Responsibilities
Our
Congress has many responsibilities, many major, some almost insignificant, but
all of them are important and necessary. Our Federal Government needs to fulfill its
Constitutional mandates of Justice, Domestic Tranquility, Common Defense and
General Welfare; these duties are the unique responsibility of Congress (House and Senate). It
is the exclusive task of the House of Representatives to raise the revenue necessary to fulfill these
obligations.
We have had 3 years of Band-Aid continuing resolutions and undeveloped legislation, making an actual budget impossible. Add into the mix legislators who fear for their ostracization from their political party and the possibility of not being re-elected, and suddenly you have governing bodies compelled to protect their own interest instead of the public interest. Unacceptable under ANY circumstance in any society, and has been the downfall of many great civilizations.
Warring Parties
The battle of Conservative vs. Liberal as a way to define a national ideology will destroy America. We are 50 unique entities and tens of thousands of unique communities under ONE guiding document.
We are not meant to have a "one-size-fits- all" country, and trying to force political/spiritual/economic beliefs above individual or community beliefs is blatant FASCISM and nothing else. It is also wholly incompatible with a nation based on liberty, justice and equality... especially when you put those fascist actions above your oath and duty to a Free and prosperous nation which you have voluntarily committed to.
Congressional Pay
In my opinion, one of the most despicable examples of Congressional lack of accountability is what members are paid. Like most of you, I have no problem paying for what I get, but cannot stand to pay for things I do not receive and have no way to get back what I paid. A Congress that has no problem demanding or requiring public and private sector employees (except management) have performance based pay while not performing their duties is absurd. If Congress was paid based on their performance they would be trying to live on minimum wage at a part time job.
I want Congress to be paid based on the prosperity of the nation as a whole. For example, right now a first term Rep. is paid $187,000 per year whether they participate in committees, vote or introduce legislation. I propose their pay be 1.5 times the National Median Income (NMI), right now that would be about $70,000 per year. When the NMI increases, so does their pay. As the majority of Americans do better, we all do better. Right now, they get paid regardless of the economic health of our nation, and therefore, have no incentive to improve the lives of the majority of Americans.
My Past
In 1998, I was convicted of a crime I did not commit and have paid an incredible price for it. I let the shame of that conviction keep me silent, publicly, to prevent my family and friends from humiliation, along with myself. Anyone that knows me can attest to the my honesty, openness, forthrightness, and integrity.
I come out here today to be publicly harassed and humiliated if that is what it takes for the problems affecting this country to get fixed. I will continue to persist in holding Our Government accountable as I have for the last 30 years, no matter what.
For this "terrible" crime I did not spend ONE day in prison. I was released from probation a year early, and passed EVERY polygraph I was given (4 total).
I had no criminal history prior to the conviction or after. And I will continue that way. Whether I am elected or not, I will continue to serve the community of La Porte, just as I have for the last 17 years.
For the people of La Porte that have already signed the nominating petition, email me and I will remove your name from the petition if you believe I was not sincere in my desire to serve the people of Indiana's 2nd Congressional District. Make sure to include your last name and address.

Taxes and Spending
Contrary
to common belief, there is no such thing as FREE. Everything costs something.
The trick is getting the most for the least... a concept that is quite foreign to
Congress and the President.
Taxes have been a part of every society in history; whether it was grain or gold, some tribute had to be provided to protect even the most pious societies. To believe a free, safe, and prosperous nation can exist, and guard its sovereignty from foreign or domestic threats without cost, is beyond naive.
Since it is a necessity, we are required Constitutionally, morally, and ethically to provide those functions and services necessary for a society built on liberty and individual freedom. Obviously taxes are not the problem; how they are being assessed and used IS a big problem.
I wish I could just magically supply the solution to this problem, but the truth is none of the candidates have access to the non-public information and data that Congress uses to make (or not make) their revenue and budget decisions. Any candidate professing to have the "be all and end all" solution without that information does not have a tangible grasp on the issues of budget and revenue.
The tax code does require cleaning up and even a complete rewrite, but that won't happen until the members of the House stop piling on to the existing unstable code and rebuild the foundation of the Tax Code.
Most Important:
The most important thing I want the residents of Indiana's 2nd District to know is that it is NOT OK to believe that no one cares about what your thoughts are about what needs to be done to ensure America's future.
We may not agree on everything, BUT if we never have a conversation, we will never know what common ground we share. The most offensive thing that can become of that is that none of us even try to understand issues from different viewpoints.
If you disagree with me, then please challenge me to discuss it with you. Don't just act like what matters to you doesn't matter to me. Let's talk about it.
